Jane Acton

About Jane
Jane started her communications career several decades ago in television news in Detroit. From there she built an eclectic professional portfolio by working in event promotion and sports marketing, public and media relations for Olympia Stadium and the Detroit Red Wings; as director of communications for the Michigan office and national headquarters of the Mental Health Association; and in public relations for several Chicago agencies on accounts like the Miss America Pageant; Whirlpool Corporation; American Association of Nurse Anesthesiologists; and Dr. Scholl’s. From Chicago, she moved to Tampa, where she landed a front-office position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as director of community relations and luxury suite management. The Bucs hosted Super Bowl XXV during Desert Storm, which required additional security coordination to protect VIPs attending the game in the luxury suites.
With military service across generations on both sides of her family, Jane has an abiding love and respect for and a commitment to the uniformed services.
Athletic and health conscious, she became a group fitness instructor and taught a variety of class formats for 15 years.
In 2011, Jane was fortunate to align both those passions when she returned to the workforce as a contractor for the Military Health System/Defense Health Agency, where’s she’s spent a good portion of her professional time. She’s also garnered experience consulting with other military and federal health-related organizations, such as Army Blast Injury Research; Army Medical Communications for Combat Casualty Care; Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery; and Health and Human Services.
Jane graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in print journalism. She’s married to RADM (Ret.) John Acton, USCGR. They have two adult children. Jane and John will soon live on a small bucolic farm outside Charlottesville.
