About Margot

Margot graduated from Harvard College with a background in Art, Film, and Visual Studies and Government in 2022 where she worked as the co-chief intern at ReVista: The Harvard Review of Latin America doing digital media and administration, and a senior editor for the Harvard International Review. She also worked for The Massachusetts Institute for a New Commonwealth as a research intern in 2021 and 2022, where she contributed unique research to a project supporting small- and mid-size cities in economic redevelopment plans.

Margot first started working for Ward Circle in 2022 as an Associate. During that tenure, she spent most of her time supporting the Listos California initiative within the California Office of Emergency Services. Her primary role was managing the production of the 300+ deliverables that WCS produced between March and August of 2023.

In 2023, Margot left to pursue an intensive 8-month MA Degree in the Social Sciences from the University of Chicago. There, she authored a thesis which provided a deep qualitative analysis of Incel subculture, arguing that academic scholars should be careful to not assume that the participants of problematic subcultural movements are inherently or intrinsically bad people, and that a more productive, interesting, and informative engagement with these subcultures comes from identifying the life histories that lead people to form and join these problematic worldviews.

Margot rejoined the Ward Circle team in 2024 following the completion of her MA degree. Her time in academia helped her develop a greater appreciation for the concrete, mission-driven work done by the wonderful people who staff WCS.

Margot is proudly Mexican-American and is fluently bilingual in Spanish. In the fall of 2024, she transitioned from male to female. She is grateful that Ward Circle Strategies is such a welcoming and supportive environment.

• Margot’s MA thesis was almost 3 times as long as the average thesis in the UChicago MAPSS program and is the piece of work she is most proud of to date.
• Margot has done a lot of large-scale world building and created numerous languages (including one full alphabet), governments, fantasy species, and cultures.
• Margot’s favorite animals are baby hippos and has a soft spot for Fritz the hippo in the Cincinnati Zoo.
